How To Fix Medical Bill Mistakes

A father and son can sit on a couch, together, today because of a selfless act.

Tay needed a kidney transplant. Son Andrew volunteered.

“At first, I didn’t want him to, I couldn’t imagine putting my son though that,” says Tay.

The surgery was hard and recovery was slow and painful for Andrew. But Dad improved rapidly.

“He’s a great young man, whom I love very much, who is my hero,” says Tay.

But along with pain, Andrew started getting medical bills from Carolinas Medical Center. CMC had told them donor medical costs were free yet the bills kept coming.. along with threats of collections. Finally after a lot of emails— to a lot of people, the billing mistake was fixed.

Andrew and his mom did the right thing. They put their case in writing. But go a step further and mail it. It’s harder for them to forget something on their desk than a phone message or email.
